Better passengers' information at large train stations

Dutch railway infrastructure manager ProRail has contracted the cellular communications consulting firm Clear CinCom to conduct measurements in all of the larger train stations across the country. In order to provide the passenger with accurate and up-to-date time table and platform information, the Dutch railways will place hundreds of high quality InfoPlus screens that will bring more usability and accuracy to the passenger.

Communications on the railway network in The Netherlands is performed by the GSM-R protocol, which is rapidly becoming the worldwide standard for railway communications. GSM-R, also called GSM-Rail, is used for both security and information services. The new InfoPlus screens are larger and more readable than the information boarding currently used by the Dutch railways. Accuracy can be assured by a wireless connection with GSM-R through a Um-interface.

In order to make the system perform optimal and as efficient as possible, ProRail realized that a design based on accurate measurements is the key. The infrastructure manager therefore contracted Clear CinCom. This consulting company has extensive experience working with the GSM-R standard and possesses a number of propriety measuring tools.
